An archive of terms relating to the Yo-kai Watch franchise and this AU.
A
Attribute - The magical element of a technique or Yo-kai. Every Yo-kai has one of the eight attributes: Fire, Water, Earth, Lightning, Wind, Ice, Drain, and Restoration.
B
Brave (tribe) - A tribe that mainly consists of strong, lion-hearted Yo-kai that specalize in physical strength and getting reeeeal up close and personal in combat.
C
Charming (tribe) - A tribe that mainly consists of small, adorable Yo-kai that are known for being quick on their feet.
E
Eerie (tribe) - A tribe that mainly consists of strange, unsettling-looking Yo-kai that are known for bringing opponents to their knees with negative inspirits.
Enma (tribe) - A tribe that is exclusive to the family members of the Enma lineage, who supervise all matters in the Yo-kai World. The current Lord Enma is the 11th heir to the throne.
Equipment - Items Yo-kai can hold to increase their stats in battle or grant special boosts under certain conditions.
G
Ghost - A fully incoporeal being. Ghosts do not eat or sleep and can only be born from the death of a human, animal, or Yo-kai. Ghosts also have the ability to become Yo-kai through certain means.
H
Heartful (tribe) - A tribe that mainly consists of kind, yet empty-headed Yo-kai that are known for their healing abilities.
I
Inspirit - in reference to Yo-kai; to possess a person/the environment around it with Yo-ki energy, resulting in a positive or negative effect depending on the Yo-kai. Not to be confused with possession.
M
Mysterious (tribe) - A tribe that mainly consists of odd-looking Yo-kai that are known for their prowess in sorcery and magical techniques.
P
Pins - Pushpin-like objects that can be used to target specific Yo-kai in-battle. They are made of Yo-ki energy stored in the Watch, and dissipate once the battle ends.
Possession - the act of a Yo-kai physically taking over and puppeting the body of a human, object, or animal. Not to be confused with inspiriting.
Purification - the act of a Yo-kai/Watcher dispelling an inspirit from itself or a fellow Yo-kai/Watcher.
R
Rank - the measurment system that determines a Yo-kai's strength. The ranks are, from least to most powerful: E, D, C, B, A, and S. Yo-kai usually cannot easily change their rank. However, just because a Yo-kai's rank is low, it doesn't mean they are necessarily weak.
S
Shady (tribe) - A tribe that mainly consists of mischievous, no-good Yo-kai that specialize in sapping the strength from their opponents. This tribe's inspirits usually cause the most trouble for humans.
Slippery (tribe) - A tribe that mainly consists of wriggly, squirmy-wormy Yo-kai that specialize in dodging and weaving through attacks.
Soul - A wisp-shaped object that is the core of a Yo-kai's being, and is only ever exposed when it is forcefully removed or the Yo-kai's body has been destroyed. Souls are still conscious but cannot move. If the soul is destroyed, the Yo-kai is killed and cannot be recovered.
Summon/Summoning - the act of inserting a Yo-kai Medal into a Yo-kai Watch to bring a Yo-kai to the Watch holder's side. The watch will play a song depending on the tribe of the Yo-kai summoned. See: Summoning Song.
Summoning Song - A musical jingle that plays shortly before a Yo-kai is summoned by the watch. Every Yo-kai Tribe has a unique summoning song.
T
Technique - An elemental attack Yo-kai can use in battle. The technique a Yo-kai knows depends on its Attribute and its Rank. See: Attribute and Rank.
Tough (tribe) - A tribe that mainly consists of hardy, resilient Yo-kai that are known for being able to tank hits like champs.
Tribe - A group in which Yo-kai are sorted into. A yo-kai's assigned tribe is determined based on it's origin, appearance, or what professionals call "general vibes." There are 11 tribes: Brave, Mysterious, Tough, Charming, Heartful, Shady, Eerie, Slippery, Wicked, Wandroid, and Enma.
W
Wandroid (tribe) - A tribe that consists of only one Yo-kai: Android Yamada. He's a rather...odd and lonely fellow. At least if you're alone, you can be the best, right?
Wicked (tribe) - A tribe that mainly consists of dark, evil entities born from concentrated negative emotions. Members of this tribe have the ability to possess others, bringing out the absolute worst in them.
Y
Yo-kai - Semi-incoporeal beings that have the ability to inspirit humans, causing changes in behavior or certain common phenomena humans experience in their day-to-day. Yo-kai can be born from abandoned objects, strong feelings, or those who died with regrets in life. Not to be confused for ghosts.
Yo-kai Watch - An item that grants the user the ability to see and summon Yo-kai by inserting a medal into the slot. Disclaimer: Watch cannot tell time.
Yo-kai Medal - A small, metal coin that Yo-kai give to trusted friends, both human and yo-kai. Yo-kai medals can also be used to summon Yo-kai into battle. Disposing of a medal a Yo-kai gives to you, especially behind their back, is considered highly offensive.
Yo-kai World - The realm in which Yo-kai primarily reside. It is much like the human world with shops, cities, cars and roads...just with some extra oddities.
Yo-ki - Magical energy similar to the concept of mana. Yo-kai are made of Yo-ki energy, and humans can wield it offensively using the Yo-kai Watch.
Yo-ki Weapon - An object made of magical energy that Watchers can use to fight. This weapon varies depending on the watcher's personality. Karrie's, for example, is a ribbon wand.
